In
1968 the architectural joint of the high city was aknowledged by
IPHAN (Institute of the National Artistic and Historic Patrimony).
In
1973 the city was raised national monument.
In
1999, the territory called Museu Aberto do Descobrimento, which
includes Port Seguro, was promoted by UNESCO to the category of
Natural Patrimony of the Humanity.

Aberto do Descobrimento
The
description of the coast by Pero Vaz de Caminha in 1500 nowadays
still remains with a few alterations. Constituting of the most beautiful
e important Brazilian littoral landscapes. That because it joins
natural and the cultural wealth, and the area represents the cradle
of a new nation, shaped by the meeting of distint people.
This
territory, known today as Museu Aberto do Descobrimento (Open Museum
of the Discovery), understands the stretch covered by the squadron
of Pedro Álvares Cabral, since the sight of Mount Pascoal
and the first contact with the natives, probably in the Barra do
Caí river, until the arrival in Cabrália Bahia, next
to the River João to Tiba.
